Gonda: The Uttar Pradesh Junior High School Teachers’ Association has expressed strong resentment over the alleged delay of more than a year in settling the accident insurance claim of the late Satyadev Verma, a teacher at Composite School Jogapur in Mankapur.
A delegation of office-bearers of the association, led by Provincial Joint Secretary Pawan Kumar Singh, submitted a memorandum to the Regional Manager of Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Regional Office, Devipatan Division, Gonda, demanding that the pending claim amount be paid within 15 days.
Satyadev Verma died in a road accident on February 25, 2025, while he was travelling to attend a wedding ceremony. His salary account was maintained at the Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank branch in Virepur. According to the teachers’ association, the branch had submitted an accident insurance claim of ₹40 lakh, followed by several reminders, but the amount has allegedly not yet been paid.
The association further alleged that the deceased teacher’s family was repeatedly called to complete the required formalities but the claim remained unsettled. It also alleged that an insurance company official demanded a 20 per cent “facilitation fee” in connection with the claim. These allegations could not be independently verified.
The association said it had previously taken up the matter with the Regional Manager, but the discussions did not yield any resolution. Following this, the organisation decided to intensify its protest.
The teachers’ body warned that if the claim is not settled within 15 days, it will launch a protest, including a demonstration and sit-in outside the regional office and concerned bank branches. The association said the bank would be held responsible for any such action.
The issue has reportedly caused considerable resentment among teachers across the district. The association said it would not tolerate what it described as the continued neglect of the deceased teacher’s family.
Among those present were Divisional Minister Mohit Prakash Singh, District Minister Anil Kumar Singh, Divisional Treasurer Sudhakar Singh, Anup Tiwari, Gaurav Singh, Krishna Kumar Soni, Ram Sevak, Puneet, Satish Chaudhary, Ram Krishna Singh, Surya Bhan Ram, Arun Kumar and other office-bearers.
